This post is the last in a four part series on high efficiency gas furnaces. If you haven’t read parts 1, 2, and 3 yet, I recommend you do before continuing.

Advantages of a high efficiency gas furnace

  • Save money – obviously, you’ll need less gas to heat your home with a high efficiency gas furnace. Eventually, your new high efficiency gas furnace will pay for itself in the money you save on your utility bills!
  • Less emissions – not only are high efficiency gas furnaces better for the environment, they’re also a great choice for poorly ventilated areas, like basements and attics. Without proper ventilation, any combustion heating system can potentially cause a dangerous buildup of carbon monoxide. However, with a high efficiency gas furnace, this risk is somewhat mitigated.

Is a high efficiency gas furnace the right choice for you?

While high efficiency gas furnaces have clear advantages over their standard efficiency counterparts, they aren’t always the answer. For example, if you plan to move out of your house in only a year or two, there’s no way that will be enough time to recoup the money you spent on the furnace in utility bill savings. Also, high efficiency gas furnaces are more complex and expensive than their standard efficiency counterparts. If initial cost is high on your list of concerns, it may not make sense or be possible to pony up the dough for a state-of-the-art system.

On the other hand, if you’re building a new house or don’t plan to move anytime soon, and you don’t mind the higher initial cost, then a high efficiency gas furnace is a no-brainer. You’ll save money, enjoy a cleaner, safer unit, and the environment will benefit, too!
